Blue Flag Turns 35!

Blue Flag International is celebrating 35 years of program delivery. The Blue Flag program began in 1987 in France. With EU support the program grew until it went international in 2001 when South Africa became the first non-european participating country. Currently, the Blue Flag program is operated in 50 countries with over 4800 sites–an increase of 200 sites since 2021. The program continues to grow internationally and is setting goals for the next ten years.
