Congratulations! Now What?

Your application is in, your ceremony planned, flag raised, press releases out and now you are managing a Blue Flag awarded site. What’s next?

The number one thing to monitor during your season is compliance. If you are not meeting any of the criteria, for any period of time, you need to notify national staff. Reach out if you have questions about compliance. If you receive any complaints about your site, please notify staff of the complaint and all follow up.

Most criteria management is built into ongoing maintenance procedures. The following are areas of the criteria which need to be communicated with national staff or done in addition to normal management.

Environmental Education & Information
  • Post any temporary or time-sensitive information on the information board.
  • Host 5 environmental education activities.
  • Submit post-activity reports.
Water Quality

  • Send weekly results to National Staff.
Environmental Management
  • Leave natural debris on the beach/keep existing wrack line when grooming.
  • Notify staff of any damage resulting from storms or any scheduled maintenance to facilities.
  • Notify staff of any changes to procedures, policies, ordinances, which affect criteria.
